Digital Art + Literacy Program

Since 2022, Thrive Refuge has partnered with ISSofBC to support and deliver arts-based programming to newcomers in the Vancouver area.

Together, we launched the Digital Art and Literacy Program, providing newcomer youth with the opportunity and resources to learn about digital literacy and digital art. Over the course of the summer, nine inaugural participants built new friendships and learned to exercise their creative voices. We challenged the youth to pair up and create digital murals, envisioning ISSofBC's values: “We work, with purpose. We aspire, to improve. We cultivate, belonging. We, are, genuine.”

These murals remind us of the importance of hope, resiliency, and the innate power of feeling included, They illustrate the incredible power of ISSofBC's programming, ensuring that newcomers have the tools they need to thrive in Canada, building a future where everyone can belong.

Murals created by Vlaydyslava Soloshenko, Zin Zin Myint Aung, Irene Niwat, Alexandra Acosta, Oleksii Nadtochii, Diana Estrada, Maryam Mahazi, Shahnaz Shahrestani, Yosyas Zena, and Isabelle Wang
